Match Reports

Sun 8th Nov  -   Triumph  5 - 2 Rugby Town

Today’s game started in wet conditions but that didn’t deter the boys from giving one of the best performances of the campaign. The game started equally and for the first 10mins both sides were checking each other out with chances coming at both ends.

It was Cairns though who continually made both teasing and aggressive runs at his left back, beating him and supplying crosses into the waiting Miller, Ward and Wood – a goal had to come.

The midfield were monumental de Vos and P McInally began to dictate and put their mark on the game. De Vos was like a man possessed here there and everywhere an unrestrained force with McInally the steadying influence.

Defensively we no longer look jittery J McInally and Stock marshalling the defence in such a manner that you always expect them to come away with the ball. This then gives the full backs time and room to drive forward. Both Grant and Howarth today were exceptional especially Howarth who has had little game time.

But it was Rugby who scored first and then added a second quite quickly before half time. Season’s gone by would see us collapsing but not now, there is a determination in all who now wear the Triumph black and white. As both Marc and myself looked across each player we could see that there was a steely look in their eyes – losing was not an option today.

A riposte before half time was needed and indeed it came on the stroke of half time. There are times when a lot needs to be said in the team talks especially at half time, lately though that hasn’t been the case, a few words here and there a pointer or two and let them get on with it.

The second half was Triumph through and through the game was taken by the scruff of the neck and dictated by Triumph. The inevitable equaliser came and with it the full rewards of the day. Cairns and Ward were a driving force up and down the right flank creating space for each other and allowing others to drive through.

The game was won by goals from Miller 2, Wood 2 opening his account for the season and de Vos 1 also opening his account.

Fiander came on and stepped straight into left back doggedly tackling and venturing forward to give support to the others. In all this we sometimes forget S McInally who pulls off save after save when needed and today was no different.

Unbeaten in 4 not a bad run bring on Leamington Brakes next week.

Sun 27th Sept  -   Warwick Jrs  0 - 0   Triumph

With half the team lost some where in Warwick with 5 minutes to go, it wasn't the best preparation for a tough away leg, but boy, were the lads up for it! Other than two points lost, we were again the better side as we have been in all of our games so far this season, unfortunately we just could not finish.

From the first whistle we were sharper with the ball and in the tackle and there were some tackles! All over the pitch we won our own battles and after the first five minutes we were on top, with some slick football. The first half was end to end at times, with Jack and Jordan keeping both Warwick strikers quiet, sniffing out any danger, Daniel and Charlie were on top of their game using the ball, after winning it and allowing us to break forward.

Phillip is starting to pull the strings in midfield with Kyle always looking for a forward pass to get us on the attack, with James returning on the right and Jacob down the left we were a constant threat from midfield. Thomas and Jake held the ball up well and worked their back four with their movement, but unfortunately didn’t get any joy with Warwick's goal keeper pulling of some good saves.

The second half started much the same as the first half with Triumph having most of the play and creating chances, Scott was again solid with some quality saves and quick distribution starting the attacks, Adam had a bright half up front and just needs to get a goal and then I'm sure more will follow. For the last 10 minutes we were camped in their half, creating chance after chance but just could not get the winner, I was pleased with yet another fine performance from the squad and the lads should be proud of themselves for the effort they have been putting into their games so far.

I therefore look forward to this weekend's game, with the confidence of getting our first victory – Well done lads.

PS Could you all bring your shooting boots to training on Wednesday please :o)

Sun 20th Sept  -   Rugby Town Jrs  4 - 2   Triumph  (Cup)

What can I say about Sunday’s performance other than we did ourselves proud against higher league opposition, in my opinion there wasn’t a lot between the two team's, football wise and regarding the effort put in by both teams.

We started brightly with a solid first 20 minutes as the half unfolded we were put under some pressure from Rugby Town’s midfield and forward's with Scott being called into action more than once, with a bit of pressure building Scott made absolute top draw save, low down to his right hand side, flicking the ball over the bar from ground level. Unfortunately Scott couldn’t do anything about the first goal which was put in after a bit of a scramble in the box, our defence worked as a unit keeping Rugby Town to a minimum of chance's, going in at half time 1-0 and playing without fear the boy’s were more than still in the game.

In the second half Rugby Town got the rub of the green and put their chance's away making it 3-0 in the first 10 mins, but we dug in and started to turn the game with a few chance's coming in quick succession, with some nice midfield play by Phillip, Kyle and Adam the ball was released for Jacob to run on to and was challenged inside the box, all I will say is that if he had gone down instead of trying to stay on his feet the referee would of have had to given a penalty, but he was honest and got no reward. A few minute's later we did get a penalty and after a brief debate between the player's Kyle stepped up and tucked it away in the bottom corner. The whole team were now lifted by the first goal of the season and the lads went about their task with new vigour, putting pressure on the ball and giving Rugby no time or space, this in turn gave us the upper hand and another goal soon followed with a lovely finish from Jake from the edge of the box. As we pushed forward looking to draw level we were caught on the counter attack, but with 10 minutes to go we were the team playing football and we looked like a red league team.

The game finished 4-2 but all of our boys could hold there head's up high having put in such a gritty TEAM performance. Scott got M.O.M after making some fine saves and one Petr Cech would have been proud of. Jordan and Jack seem to be forming a solid partnership at the back with Charlie and Alex sorting the wide players in the first half. Josh came on in the second and had a very good 35 mins, also the midfield looked strong with Phillip, Kyle, Jake and Jacob moving the ball well and interchanging nicely. I changed the team around a bit so all of the players got some part of the game with Adam getting better each game he play's.

So we move on to the next game against Warwick Juniors with confidence and hope of collecting three point's.... Well done lad's see you all at training.

Sun 13th Sept  -   Rugby Town   1 - 0   Triumph

Mugged, robbed put whatever adjective you like to today's result but whichever way you look at it the result was not a true reflection of the game.

I defy anyone to tell me that you deserve to loose when you've had the ball in the net twice, hit the bar once and been denied a stone wall penalty.

Decisions they say always level themselves out across a game or season that can only happen when it involves the referee alone, you cannot legislate for the opposition linesman's decisions. Admittedly we were clearly offside on half a dozen occasions but they were obvious, it is painful to be adjudged offside when your not interfering with play - referees should learn to over rule.

Enough of the moaning I don't want to detract from the boys remarkable performance today.

We lifted ourselves from last week and set about our task well. The early exchanges were equal but from about halfway through the first half Triumph began to play good attacking football stringing a series of passes together resulting in Miller hitting the cross bar. Defensively we looked sound, positionally we worked well together with each of the back four either pushing forward with confidence or delivering telling passes to release the wide men.

The midfield developed throughout the game taking a grip upon it, which then allowed freedom for others.

For the second week running we created chances this time, however, we crafted them with hard work and skill. The forward line is one that I consider is made up of two front runners being supported by two wide men and the central midfielders when that combines you get results, it did combine today and that is where the chances came from unfortunately we didn't get the result we wanted.

You can never forget your goalkeeper and in ours we have a solid team member. With that position safe it begins to give confidence to others.

We are still blending with each other I still say that it will take a couple more games to fully settle down but be assured we will settle down.

The results will come so let's not get down beat.

MOM - Miller

Well done boys.

Sun 6th Sept  -   Warwick Jrs   2 - 0   Triumph

The opening game of the season ended with a disappointing result losing 2-0 to Warwick Juniors.

With a new squad in place and virtually at full strength Triumph started the game having played two friendlies, winning one and losing the other, but today would suggest that we need more time to bed in and become a unit.

At times we were all at sea in midfield and in defence looking like strangers and creating our own problems.

We looked sluggish in areas and the team's fitness was second to Warwick's.

BUT

The positive side is that we created something like 10 chances from attacking play. The chances were spread across a variety of players, which is another positive as we did not rely upon one individual.

We continued to persevere and worked hard at times.

The result does not reflect the overall game but suggests that there was a great difference between the sides, that was not the case, we have work to do to put things right but with the standard of the personnel on board we can do it.

It is only the first game of the season DON'T GET DOWN HEARTED BE POSITIVE and let's put this behind us.
